Palmerston North-based NovoLabs was announced as a finalist in not one, but FOUR categories in the 2024 NZ Hi-Tech Awards.

The Massey Ventures spinout uses patented Supercritical Ultraviolet (UV) technology to disinfect a range of liquids and wastewater.

Unlike conventional UV systems that require relatively high liquid clarity to be effective, the NovoLabs Supercritical UV system is repeatedly proven in turbid liquids with low clarity. Based on years of research at Massey University, the unique technology is a game changer for customers in meat and food processing industries and municipal wastewater treatment applications where traditional UV treatment would not otherwise be viable.

The 29thNZ Hi-Tech Awards celebrate the success of goods and services producers from the software, electronics, telecommunications, mobile, agritech, creative and other high-tech industries. Novolabs was named as a finalist across four categories this year, including:

  • Most Innovative Hi-Tech Hardware Product

  • Most Innovative Hi-Tech Solution for a More Sustainable Future

  • Most Innovative Deep Tech Solution

  • And the highly prestigious Hi-Tech Start-up Company of the Year

The Hi-Tech Awards this year received a record number of entries across the country and from all areas of the Hi-Tech sector. This depth is reflected in the line-up of finalists this year, according to David Downs, Chair of the Hi-Tech Trust, who says the standard of entries continue to grow every year.

It’s awesome to have received a record number of entries, surpassing our previous best by some margin and great to see that our entrants and finalists come from right around the country and cover so many diverse technologies” says Downs.

The Hi-Tech Awards Gala Dinner will take place on Friday the 24th of May at Spark Arena in Auckland. A sell-out crowd of over 1,200 is expected.
